FCC Votes 5-0 to Sunset 'Viewability' Rule

June 12, 2012
The FCC has voted unanimously to sunset the "viewability" rule, which mandates that cable operators with hybrid systems carry digital must-carry signals in an analog format for the benefit of analog-service customers. In 2007, the FCC adopted the Viewability Order, which established a rule to ensure that after the DTV transition, cable subscribers with analog TV sets would continue to be able to view broadcast stations, as required by statute.
