Google Fiber (NASDAQ:GOOG) subsidiary Webpass is getting ready to start deploying residential and business Internet services in Seattle, including gigabit service. Internet tiers of 100, 200 or 500 Mbps and 1 Gbps will be available, starting at $60 a month.
The company has identified the first building where it will provide service and hired a local general manager.
Webpass will start with Fifteen Twenty-One Second Avenue, a 40-story tower located above Pike Place Market. The company expects to add more buildings throughout the city over time, primarily focusing on multiple dwelling units (MDUs) such as apartment and condo buildings.
Leading the Seattle team as General Manager is Craig Friedson, a 20-year Seattle resident and telecom and Internet industry professional for nearly 25 years.
Google Fiber bought Webpass in October. The San Francisco-based ISP uses a combination of fiber-to-the-building and point-to-point wireless to provide Internet service. Webpass, founded in 2003, has a presence in Boston, Chicago, Miami, San Diego, the San Francisco area, Denver and now Seattle.
