AT&T (NYSE:T) has launched gigabit Internet service for both residential and business services customers in parts of St. Louis, St. Charles and University City, with more area communities slated to get the 1 Gbps fiber-based services by the end of the year.

"We're proud to bring the St. Louis metro AT&T's ultra-fast Internet speeds over our AT&T GigaPower and Business Fiber networks. This announcement is yet another example of AT&T's continued investment in the advanced infrastructure that businesses and consumers in Missouri want and need," said John Sondag, president, AT&T Missouri. "Today, we mark just the beginning of our AT&T GigaPower service and we continue to work diligently to expand it and our Business Fiber network to additional locations throughout St Louis."

AT&T says its GigaPower network is currently available in more than 2.2 million locations in 27 metro areas. The telco plans to expand its availability to parts of 29 more areas, for 56 metros in total, and more than 14 million residential and commercial locations.

AT&T Business Fiber reaches about 1 million business customer locations in the United States, with more than 28,000 of those in Missouri. The company currently has around 1,200 multi-tenant office buildings that are live with AT&T Business Fiber in Missouri.
