Midco is now offering its Midco Xstream Gig gigabit Internet service in the Bemidji service area in northern Minnesota, including Bemidji itself and nine surrounding communities. The DOCSIS 3.1-based service is available to both residential and business customers.

Midco says Xstream Gig is now available to more than 50% of its customers. Earlier this month, the company launched the service in Rapid City, SD, and Grand Forks, ND. It's also available in Sioux Falls, SD, and Fargo, ND, where it debuted in March.

Midco's goal for the year is to deploy DOCSIS 3.1 gigabit in 80% of its markets. Early deployments are based on Cisco (NASDAQ:CSCO) cBR-8 CCAP gear, as well as modems from ARRIS (NASDAQ:ARRS) and Hitron Technologies. Midco plans to add other vendors' DOCSIS 3.1 modems as they become available.
