Midco has deployed its Midco Xstream Gig gigabit Internet service in Rapid City, SD, and 16 surrounding communities. Last week, the service went live in Grand Forks, ND, and is also available in Sioux Falls, SD, and Fargo, ND, where it debuted in March.

The DOCSIS 3.1-based service is available to both residential and business customers. Midco also provides direct fiber services of up to 10 Gbps to businesses.

"Midco Business Xstream Gig is a significant investment in the region. Businesses often look to broadband availability when deciding where to locate," said Midco EVP and CFO Steve Grosser. "Our announcement today shows Midco's commitment to technology and innovation throughout our urban and rural footprint."

Midco's goal for the year is to deploy DOCSIS 3.1 gigabit in 80% of its markets. Early deployments are based on Cisco (NASDAQ:CSCO) cBR-8 CCAP gear, as well as modems from ARRIS (NASDAQ:ARRS) and Hitron Technologies. Midco plans to add other vendors' DOCSIS 3.1 modems as they become available.
