Cox Communications has teamed up with the city of San Diego to open Cox WiFi hotspots to the public from July 8-24 in downtown San Diego, where the city will host Major League Baseball's All-Star game and Comic-Con.

Residents and tourists alike will have free, unlimited access to Cox WiFi hotspots throughout downtown including the Gaslamp District, East Village and Little Italy.

"Today, so much of our local economy rests on Internet service, and with today's announcement, San Diego's tourism economy is also entering the digital age," said San Diego Mayor Kevin Faulconer. "Events like Comic-Con and the All Star Game will be some of our biggest tourist attractions this year - providing big boosts to our economy, which will help create jobs for residents and revenue for businesses across our city. Thank you, Cox, for serving the residents of San Diego for more than 50 years, working to improve our community and your introduction of free Wi-Fi during July, which will be a major force in helping our local economy continue to grow."

Cox Internet customers with Preferred, Premier, Ultimate and GIGABLAST Internet packages already have free access to all CoxWiFi hotspots as part of their service. They also have access to the nation's largest WiFi network, CableWiFi, which includes more than 400,000 hotspots throughout the country.

Non-customers, and Cox customers who don't subscribe to the Preferred or above packages, can access the downtown San Diego hotspots from July 8-24 by selecting the "CoxWiFiFree" wireless network on their WiFi-enabled device when at a Cox hotspot.
