As part of its ongoing TWC Maxx upgrade program, Time Warner Cable (NYSE:TWC) is beginning to roll out faster Internet speeds in San Diego this week. All six of TWC's area Internet packages are scheduled to get speed increases this year as part of the Maxx program, up to a top tier of 300 Mbps.

The MSO is conducting the rollout on a hub-by-hub basis. The majority of San Diego customers are scheduled to receive faster speeds over the course of the next month, and all customers in the company's San Diego footprint expected to receive faster speeds by the end of the year.

Some customers will need to switch out their modems to receive the faster speeds. They will be communicated with via mail, email and phone messages with reminders on how to obtain a new modem.

Other components of the TWC Maxx program include a transition to all-digital video and network reliability upgrades. The program was first announced in January 2014 and has since expanded to more than two dozen TWC markets.

Time Warner Cable has also deployed more than 1,100 WiFi hotspots throughout San Diego, with more scheduled to be added through 2016.
