One-Third of U.S. Broadband Households Go OTT

Parks Associates forecasts that more than 14 million digital video media receivers, including Apple TV and Roku, will sell in 2012. The research house believes these strong device sales indicate increasing consumer interest in nontraditional approaches to video access. "Value of Video: Shifting Consumer Dollars," a recently conducted consumer survey, indicates that 31% of U.S. broadband households regularly watch TV programs or movies accessed from the Internet on their TV sets.

"While this trend does not yet frequently equate to canceling pay-TV services, it can mean shaving some premium channels for a set of households," said Kurt Scherf, Parks VP and principal analyst, in a statement.
