Transmode announced the first deployment for its new Switched Video Transport solution, which will be installed in the new national network of Swiss cable TV operator upc cablecom, the largest broadband cable operator in Switzerland and part of Liberty Global Europe's UPC Broadband division.The new network, due for completion in Q4 2011, will be based on four interlocking rings, covering all regions of Switzerland, and serving at least 2.1 million households, as well as approximately 240 smaller cable operators. The network is based on an underlying ROADM-based optical layer, which supports broadcast services, broadband services, and mobile backhaul and business Ethernet.
