Synamedia gets SaaS-based content discovery provider Utelly

May 25, 2022
In addition to simplifying the complexity of users’ content discovery across TV channels, on demand and multiple streaming services, Utelly’s SaaS technology is now pre-integrated with the Synamedia Go video platform.

Independent video software provider Synamedia (UK) has just announced its acquisition of Utelly, privately-owned content discovery platform provider based in the UK, with products aimed at the broadband entertainment industry.

Utelly offerings include metadata aggregation, search and recommendations, as well as content management platform, as well as a content promotion engine, comprising a technology platform that simplifies the complexity of users’ content discovery across TV channels, on demand and multiple streaming services.

As revealed in a press announcement, the Utelly SaaS-based technology is already pre-integrated with the Synamedia Go video platform, and will now also be embedded in the company's Go.Aggregate add-on pack.

Synamedia and Utelly jointly add that these integrations serve to solve one of the major challenges viewers face: finding content across TV and apps on any screen.

Technology value proposition

Synamedia notes that Utelly’s technology solution achieves the aformentioned challenge via a blend of metadata aggregation, intelligent asset linking, and AI and machine learning capabilities.

Utelly's engine aggregates data in real-time from multiple metadata providers, as it is pre-integrated with well-known services such as Gracenote, TiVo, IMDB, Netflix, as well as 50 others.

By unifying data and using AI algorithms to enrich sparse data sets, Utelly's platform provides customers with search and recommendations that enhance viewers’ content discovery experiences, contends Synamedia.

"The result is an increase in customers’ Net Promoter Score (NPS), subscriber retention, and ARPU," added Synamedia's statement.

The acquisition strengthens the Synamedia Go offering and underlines a new phase of investment in Synamedia’s portfolio of SaaS streaming solutions which also includes Synamedia Clarissa, Synamedia Iris, VIVID Workflow as a Service, and Synamedia OTT ServiceGuard.

C-suite commentary

Paul Segre, CEO of Synamedia, said, “Every day we hear from customers that metadata aggregation is an obstacle that is negatively impacting viewer engagement. Utelly was ahead of the curve in recognizing this and developing a SaaS solution that enables end users to find content across aggregated TV and video services. Its AI-powered solution eliminates the complexity of combining data from multiple metadata providers and is a great addition to our Synamedia Go streaming platform.”

Romain Eude, Utelly founder and CEO stated, “This acquisition is testament to the hard work and ingenuity of our tight knit team of developers who have put Utelly on the map. We look forward to the next step in Utelly’s journey as we become part of the Synamedia family and embrace the new opportunities on a global scale.”

Synamedia's executive team last year touted reporting that its video network business achieved 57% YoY growth. The company has a knack for becoming integral to a range of broadband technology operations firms. To wit, also in 2021, Synamedia reported that its security and watermarking anti-piracy technology has been integrated with Akamai's intelligent edge platform for securing and delivering digital broadband, while protecting customers’ streaming OTT content.
