The SCTE has approved SCTE 35 2011, Digital Program Insertion Cueing Message for Cable, which is designed to support the splicing of MPEG-2 streams for digital program insertion, including ad insertion and insertion of other content types. The standard specifies a technique for carrying notification of upcoming splice points and other timing information in the transport stream.

In other standards news, the American National Standards Institute has approved ANSI/SCTE 79-3 2011, DOCSIS 2.0 + IPv6 Cable Modem Standard. It's an extension to the DOCSIS 2.0 family of specifications and provides IPv6 provisioning and management functionality for DOCSIS 2.0 cable modems, connected IPv6 eSAFEs, and external CPE devices.
