Using the 1,310 nm (or 1,610 nm) upstream wavelength, the MDU CPE incorporates DFB lasers that can provide a greater dynamic range than F-P lasers for the same NPR/BER performance and link budget, notes Aurora. Its high-level RF output for multi-tenant applications enables provisioning of FTTP with existing back-end solutions. Plus, the unit’s compact size and powering options make for easy placement and a smoother transition to an all-fiber network, the vendor indicates.
The judges particularly liked the unit’s higher output (“it should have no trouble feeding 16 or even 32 units provided drop lengths are within range”); lower distortion level, which should accommodate one or more amplifiers downstream; and compact package/excellent technical specifications since both “bode well for the stability of the unit.”
