The SCTE/ISBE and the SCTE Foundation have issued the initial call for applications for 2017 SCTE Foundation grants to be awarded to FIRST Robotics teams that are associated with and nominated by SCTE/ISBE members.

In conjunction with National Engineers Week (EWeek) Feb. 19-25, the SCTE/ISBE and the SCTE Foundation are encouraging high school robotics clubs and groups whose membership includes at least one son or daughter of a current SCTE/ISBE member to apply for grants of $2,500 each. Four grants, one per quarter, will be awarded this year. The FIRST Grant application form must be submitted by the SCTE/ISBE member; additional information and a link to the application form are available at http://foundation.scte.org/Foundation/Advantage/GrantsandScholarships/FOUND/SCTE_Foundation_Grants_and_Scholarships.aspx.

The SCTE Foundation Grants for FIRST are intended to inspire students to pursue higher education and careers in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) courses.

"FIRST Robotics teams are on the front lines of nurturing the next generation of engineering talent," said Chris Bastian, senior vice president and CTO of the SCTE/ISBE. "Our SCTE Foundation theme for 2017 is 'DREAM BIG - Volunteer and Inspire the Next Generation of Engineers.' The Foundation's FIRST Grants serve as a catalyst for that involvement by our members."

Founded by the National Society of Professional Engineers in 1951, EWeek is dedicated to ensuring a diverse and well-educated future engineering workforce by increasing understanding of and interest in engineering and technology careers.
