The total number of broadband subscriptions worldwide will reach one billion by 2015, according to a report just published by analyst firm Strategy Analytics (www.strategyanalytics.com). The Asia Pacific region--which today has almost 45 percent of all broadband subscriptions--is expected to lead in subscriber growth, with a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of nearly 18 percent in the next five years.

DSL is expected to remain the dominant access platform, though it will give way to fiber over the next five years. By 2015, one-quarter of broadband homes will connect via fiber, according to the report. Service revenues are expected to grow nearly 9 percent over the forecast period, though average revenue per user (ARPU) is expected to decline slightly.
