Corning Cable Systems (www.corning.com/cablesystems) is highlighting its flexible Evolant Solutions for all-fiber access networks (AFANs) through exhibits and hands-on demonstrations at Cable-Tec Expo. In Corning's booth, customers can get first-hand experience with the company's AFAN solutions, beginning in the headend and progressing to three methods of reaching the subscriber premises: WDM, centralized split/PON and distributed split/PON. Each solution includes interoperable components designed to maximize cost efficiency in network designs.
The centralized split solution uses a distribution cable with terminals at network access points for medium- and high-density areas. The distributed split solution is intended for rural areas or when low subscription rates are expected. A second layer of splitting at the network access point enables low-fiber-count distribution cables and minimizes initial costs.
The company is also demonstrating its OptiSnap No-Epoxy/No-Polish Connector, OptiSplice M90e Fusion Splicer, OV-1000 OTDR, and the OTS-600 series tester with data storage capabilities.
