In the old days, engineering departments could deploy equipment and implement services with modest input from other parts of the company. That is no longer true: The explosion of the Internet and emergence of shrewd competitors has complicated the environment and made it vitally important for engineers to work proactively with virtually every department.
The bottom line is simple: Engineering departments that work in a vacuum are at great risk of failure. But those who reach out are well positioned for success.
