Harmonic Iris 2.0

Service providers must effectively utilize bandwidth, while at the same time ensuring consistent video quality. This means effectively monitoring, analyzing, reordering and balancing multiple MPEG-2 and MPEG-4 AVC channels delivered within a statistical multiplex pool.
Harmonic says its Iris 2.0 provides objective data, which reflects picture quality and gives hard data on which to base decisions. It can handle any codec and format, processing and monitoring 250 services in 1 RU.Iris 2.0 generates reports on either an on-demand or per-schedule basis, which helps to diagnose video quality issues. A web-based graphical user interface offers monitoring dashboards, graphs, analytics reports and interactive channel/pool reports. The product is integrated with several leading monitoring solutions. With it, service providers can monitor and analyze their Harmonic broadcast encoders in real time.Source profiling helps alleviate problems that arise from varying channel complexity. By logging individual channels, the system can assess frame-by-frame complexity over time. Days and weeks can be compared to identify recurring patterns and make adjustments.A Statmux Pool Load Factor enables statmuxing in a LAN or distributed WAN environment. The Iris 2.0 can define optimal statmux pool allocations to determine the pool load factor as a function of channel compression complexity, codec and bitrate. The company's Video Quality Absolute Degradation feature measures the quantization of compression to report the degradation of video quality on channels or pools. A score is determined based on the encoder decisions.www.harmonicinc.comSee them at Cable-Tec EXPO, Booth 2635Return to the BTR Diamond Technology Reviews Elite.
