Wilmington, NC, Gets White Spaces Network

Spectrum Bridge announced the launch of the first commercial TV White Space (TVWS) network in Wilmington, NC. The company's cloud-based spectrum management platform taps into frequencies freed up by digital TV transition to provide wireless bandwidth and network access.

The first network applications provide public Internet access in local parks and broadband for video security surveillance. The system is also intended to provide a platform for future development and serve as a model for other municipalities looking to take advantage of TVWS.

Wilmington was also the site of trials for digital over-the-air broadcast TV several years ago.
