John Schanz, chief network officer and EVP of Comcast Cable (NASDAQ:CMCSA), will head a discussion at Cable-Tec Expo of how the next phase of the SCTE's Energy 2020 plan should be constructed. This program is an effort to generate alignment on standards and best practices, drive design and implementation of equipment, and create SCTE training resources that will enable workforce teams to optimize technology for maximum efficiency.

“We are looking to make a quantum leap since we recognize the incremental changes we have been making for decades will not get us where we ultimately need to be,” said Schanz. “This session will lay out a framework that must be made now for the industry to fully reap the benefits of the Energy 2020 program by the beginning of the next decade.”

“Meeting cable’s ambitious goals of slashing energy usage, costs and dependencies by up to 25 percent requires active participation from the operator and vendor communities,” said Mark Dzuban, president and CEO of SCTE. “By driving new standards and performance metrics, Energy 2020 is laying the foundation for future equipment purchases that can significantly change the industry’s energy footprint and consumption patterns.”

The 90-minute Energy 2020 at Expo will take place on Wed., September 24, beginning at 1 p.m. Topics covered will include:

--Energy Efficiency, led by Ivan Lamoureux, VP, network engineering, Suddenlink;

--Energy Integration into Operations, led by Simpson Cumba, director, data center management, Comcast;

--Drive Density & Performance, led by Wade Holmes, VP, technology, BendBroadband;

--Performance and Reliability Tiering, led by Dan Cooper, VP, critical infrastructure, Time Warner Cable.
