The Consumer Electronics Association released its "9th Annual State of the Builder Technology Market Study," which indicates that broadband connectivity is a selling point in homes. The percentage of builders installing broadband connections, at 77%, is the highest in the history of the study, suggesting that Internet access is a prerequisite for any new home.

CEA's study was conducted in conjunction with the National Association of Home Builders Research Center, which gathered data through the "Annual Builder Practices Survey," including new construction information from U.S. homebuilders. One in four builders surveyed (27%) said home technology greatly or somewhat increased their revenue, up from 18% in 2008.
