According to ABI Research, global pay TV service revenue generated from satellite, cable, terrestrial and telco TV for the first quarter of 2011 totaled $53 billion, a 10% increase from the first quarter of 2010. ABI expects worldwide pay TV revenue to reach $218 billion by the end of the year.

The research house credits multi-play bundles with some of that growth. Increasing penetration of multi-play services drives the growth in the subscriber base, ABI said in a statement. Bundled services are more cost-effective for customers than subscribing to each service separately. For operators, bundles tend to reduce churn and increase ARPU.
