Comcast and several other entertainment companies have begun integrating Entertainment ID Registry IDs into their digital distribution workflows. Besides Comcast, EIDR projects are underway at Warner Bros., Disney, Rovi and Baseline, targeting digital distribution workflows, including online retail distribution, digital infrastructure, VOD ingestion and tracking, and commercial metadata feeds. The EIDR also has support of the Digital Entertainment Group and the Hollywood IT Society.

The EIDR, a non-profit industry service launched in 2011, has developed what it calls a "universal unique identifier for movie and TV assets" for identifying and tracking digital movie and TV content in commercial distribution, regardless of platform or distribution channel.
