In addition to their own rebuilding efforts, cable MSOs operating in the areas damaged by Hurricane Irene are stepping up to help their communities as well.

In New York, Time Warner Cable is donating $25,000 in cash and $25,000 in local media to support the American Red Cross recovery efforts. Damage has been reported in 26 counties across New York State, many of which have been declared federal disaster areas.

In New Kent County, VA, Cox Communications is providing free Internet and phone services via a remote trailer located near the county courthouse. The site houses several laptops and cordless phones for customer use, as well as an HDTV.
