OakesWe deeply regret to report the passing of Cathy Oakes, the SCTE's senior vice president of operations. She passed away suddenly early Saturday."The BTR team is truly saddened by this news," said Tim Hermes, BTR's founder and publisher. "Not only did we all like and respect Cathy for her intelligence and passion for her work, but she truly was someone you looked forward to spending time with. We'll miss her greatly."Mark Dzuban, president and CEO of the SCTE, said: "The sudden and unexpected loss of Cathy Oakes leaves a tremendous hole in many lives. We'll remember her as someone who was committed to SCTE, a leader in the industry and dedicated to her husband and children. Our hearts go out to her family."During her seven years with the SCTE, Oakes had responsibility for a range of activities, including Membership, National Conferences, Human Resources, Administration and others. She took a leading role in the creation of numerous programs, including the SCTE Corporate Alliance Program; the SCTE-Tuck Executive Leadership Program with the Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth College; and Women's TechConnect, a mentoring program for women technologists that is a joint initiative of the SCTE and Women in Cable Telecommunications. She also was actively involved in the expansion of the SCTE Foundation.Oakes is survived by her husband, Terry, and children Terry Jr., Christina, Bridget and Olivia.The funeral will be Friday, Nov. 22, at St. Elizabeth's Church in Chester Springs, PA.Contributions in lieu of flowers may be sent to the Oakes Childrens' Education Fund, c/o DNB First Bank, 4 Brandywine Ave., Downingtown, PA 19335.
