One Diamonds judge liked the fact that the LG-1642XL-FTTx provides standard SC/APC connectors in a convenient package, saying this could not only cut the price of fiber drop installation, but also could reduce the time it takes to do it. The product also was applauded as a "well-designed commodity item," and as "sure to increase productivity with great quality."
Specifically, the fiber terminal closure houses up to 8 SC/APC connectors inside a weathertight terminal. After the drop is inserted, a weathertight seal is provided by the Snapit drop transition piece, which provides a transition between the OSP flat drop and the 2.9 MM cable inside the terminal. The product, AFL says, offers operators a means of rolling out FTTx networks at a fraction of the cost of hardened terminal solutions, which often require a splice in a separate location and closure. With the LG-142XL-FTTx, the distribution cable is spliced inside the terminal and standard SC/APC connector interfaces (not proprietary designs) are used.
