The VeEX CX380X advanced spectrum analyzer and burst demodulator is an add-on to the existing CX180R and RealWORX 24/7 preventive network monitoring systems. Triggered alarms associated with the upstream parameters of a subscriber's cable modem, including high transmit levels, can automatically engage a deeper dive measurement of the upstream signal quality. This can identify rogue cable modems in the network that are contributing harm to the plant.
Specifically, the upstream channel descriptors provided by the CMTS from a specific DOCSIS channel are captured. Triggered alarms initiate a test on the relevant upstream channel. Burst cable modem signals are captured and decoded. Key metrics - such as upstream MER, burst constellations, codeword errors, and cable modem MAC addresses - are reported. Ultimately, the rogue cable modems are identified.
