Google Fiber's (NASDAQ:GOOG) gigabit Internet service is now available to residential and business services customers in parts of Huntsville, AL. The FTTH service is available as a standalone or bundled with video and voice services.

Residents in North Huntsville can now sign up for the Fiber 1000 + TV for $160 a month, Fiber 1000 for $70, Fiber 100 for $50 or Fiber 100 + TV for $140. Fiber Phone can also be to any of the packages.

Rather than building its own network from scratch as it has done in several other markets, Google Fiber is leasing part of Huntsville's municipal fiber network from Huntsville Utilities. Google Fiber is the city's first tenant and will lease part of the network with a non-exclusive arrangement, which allows other providers to lease fiber from the city as well.

Huntsville is one of the better connected cities in the country. Mediacom, AT&T and WOW! also offer gigabit Internet services in the city.
