AT&T (NYSE:T) plans to deploy its AT&T Fiber Internet service in parts of eight new metro areas, including Dayton, OH; Macon and Savannah, GA; Madison, WI; Monterey-Salinas, CA; South Bend, IN; Springfield, MO; and western Michigan. The telco has also launched the FTTH service in parts of Oakland, CA, and surrounding areas.
AT&T plans to offer the service, which typically tops out at 940 Mbps downstream, in at least 75 metro areas. It's currently marketed in 52 metro areas. The company expects to add 2 million locations this year and plans to reach 12.5 million by mid-2019.
"While other providers have slowed deployment, we'll continue to expand access to our ultra-fast Internet to more customers, so they can more quickly connect to the things they love online," said Eric Boyer, senior vice president, Wireless and Wired Product Marketing at AT&T.
