Consolidated Communications (NASDAQ:CNSL) is launching 1 Gbps fiber-to-the-premises (FTTP) broadband services to nearly 10,000 Derry, NH, residents and small businesses.

"We've revved up our Internet service for Derry and are excited to bring users among the fastest qualified speeds in the nation," said Rob Koester, vice president of consumer product management at Consolidated. "1 Gig broadband Internet access will deliver a wider selection of services and programming, and also has the potential to transform the quality of Derry residents' lives. It will give residents the speeds they need to enjoy the latest in streaming video applications or virtual reality and help businesses more efficiently access the cloud. We're thrilled to deliver all of these benefits and more by improving the broadband experience for this community."

Elizabeth Robidoux, planning and economic development assistant for the town of Derry, said: "The Town of Derry Planning and Economic Development offices are very pleased that Consolidated Communications has increased Internet speeds to 1 Gig. The upgrade will allow business owners to provide services more efficiently, and give both business and residential customers the benefit of faster online transactions."

Streaming video services will also be available.

Last year, Consolidated completed an upgrade project in northern New England to deliver faster speeds.
