Sumitomo Electric has released its 10G symmetrical EPON line cards (FCM7133) for use with its FSU7100 Series of optical line terminals (OLTs). The new line cards are intended for the North American cable operator market for both commercial and residential applications.

The FCM7133 is designed to comply with IEEE 802.3av and offer an optional module for the FSU7100 series OLTs in accordance with CableLabs' DPoE standards. Sumitomo's OLTs are designed to support the coexistence of its 10G and 1G optical network units (ONUs) on the same fiber for backward compatibility.

Other features include simultaneous support for downstream/upstream rates of 10 Gbps/10 Gbps, 10 Gbps/1 Gbps and 1 Gbps/1 Gbps, and capacities of more than 8,000 subscribers per chassis.
