As part of the federal ConnectHome low-income broadband program, Google (NASDAQ:GOOG) Fiber is making gigabit Internet service available to residents in all public housing properties that it connects.
The company started its program today in the Kansas City public housing development of West Bluff, which is getting free gigabit service. Google says it has connected all 100 homes with fiber, and residents can purchase discounted devices and learn new computer skills.
The company plans to connect up to nine Kansas City area properties, reaching more than 1,300 families, and also to make gigabit Internet available to select affordable housing developments in all of its fiber cities.
