Seattle-based GigabitNow and Calix (NYSE:CALX) are deploying their first gigabit Internet community network at The Sea Ranch in northern California encompassing 2,200 homes. The Sea Ranch homeowners will own the fiber infrastructure in a public-private partnership model; the community will fund and own the fiber network, while GigabitNow will build and operate it. The network is designed to deliver voice and data broadband services and will operate under the name Sea Ranch Connect.
The Calix deployment includes Compass software, 844GE GigaCenters, and the E7-20 Fiber Access System.
"GigabitNow has a strong history of building and operating gigabit fiber networks for both residents and businesses throughout this region," said Steve Milton, CEO at GigabitNow. "As we began this project with The Sea Ranch, we were looking for a new solution to not only deliver the best broadband experience to our subscribers, but also streamline our operations to optimize our total cost of ownership (TCO). The Compass software and GigaCenter solution delivered on those needs and will allow us to remotely monitor and troubleshoot subscriber's home WiFi networks from one centralized location, even as we scale to serve new communities throughout the Pacific Northwest and northern California."
GigabitNow offers turnkey solutions for the planning, design, construction, operation and support of gigabit fiber networks. The company develops networks and then manages the daily operations including end user support and billing.
Calix has been involved in numerous gigabit fiber deployments, mainly in rural communities and with utilities, but also in some larger markets such as its deployment with Grande Communications in Austin, TX.
