Cox Communications' residential gigabit Internet service, GIGABLAST, is now available in parts of Phoenix; Orange County, CA; Omaha; and Las Vegas. The company first announced it was planning to add 1 Gbps broadband speeds at last year's NCTA Cable Show.

Cox also is deploying broadband network infrastructure in parts of Arkansas, Louisiana, Rhode Island, Oklahoma and Virginia to bring G1GABLAST to customers in those states. The service is expected to launch in those areas starting later this summer. Residential gigabit service is expected to be available in all Cox markets by the end of 2016.

In 2014, the company doubled the speeds of its most popular Internet service packages, High Speed Internet Preferred and High Speed Internet Premier, covering nearly 75% of its customers. Earlier this year, High Speed Internet Essential and High Speed Internet Starter speeds were increased, and the company plans to increase its High Speed Internet Ultimate package later this year.

Cox also offers WiFi via thousands of hotspots in parts of Virginia, Connecticut, Nebraska, Arizona, Nevada, Idaho and California. The company plans to launch additional WiFi hotspots later this year. Cox customers also have access to CableWiFi, a WiFi network of more than 300,000 metro hotspots, made possible by a collaboration of cable companies across the country.
