Comcast (NASDAQ:CMCSA) plans to offer its Gigabit Pro symmetrical 2 Gbps residential broadband service to more than 2.4 million customers across several markets in the greater Chicago area, as well as 500,000 in Nashville, TN. Both deployments are scheduled to go live later this month and are based on fiber-to-the-home (FTTH).

The Chicago deployment will cover customers in Illinois and Northwest Indiana; Comcast plans to offer a multi-gigabit fiber service through its Xfinity Communities program that serves residents living in multi-dwelling units such as apartment complexes in Chicago. The Nashville deployment will cover the metro area and surrounding middle-Tennessee communities.

Comcast previously announced plans for Gigabit Pro rollouts in Atlanta, California, Chattanooga, and Florida, and plans to deliver the service to 18 million homes by the end of the year.
