Applied Optoelectronics (NASDAQ:AAOI) is partnering with Harmonic (NASDAQ:HLIT) to develop a remote DOCSIS optical node for Harmonic's distributed CCAP-ready NSG EXO platform. AOI is developing and manufacturing the optical node, which is expected to begin shipping to Harmonic in the second quarter of 2015.
The NSG EXO system is a cable edge device for the delivery of video, data and voice services over coax. It's designed to move a service provider's RF requirements out of the headend or hub and place them deep in the fiber network, as well as leverage DOCSIS back-office provisioning and DOCSIS cable modems while supporting a mix of FTTx and coax customers over the same network.
