ADTRAN Inc. (NASDAQ:ADTN) says that Ohio utility Consolidated Electric Cooperative, a Touchstone Energy Cooperative, has begun to roll out gigabit broadband capabilities across the state using the system house's broadband equipment. The deployment targets the provision of business services as well as the needs of 15 school districts. The utility has partnered with META Solutions, an information technology center that provides networking and Internet access for school districts in Ohio, on the deployment. In addition to providing schools with fixed-line broadband access, the infrastructure also will support Wi-Fi networks in the schools. While the company didn't mention exactly what it is supplying for the deployment, a spokesperson confirms that ADTRAN's flagship Total Access 5000 is involved. META Solutions is using the Total Access 5006 for the school applications, the source adds.

The deployment is latest in a string of rural gigabit deployments ADTRAN has announced this year (see, for example, "Troy Going Gigabit in Alabama with ADTRAN" and "Rural OK Telco Goes Gigabit").
