Mediacom Communications says it will offer gigabit broadband to its footprint in Missouri's Boone, Cole, and Callaway counties. Cities that stand to benefit from the roll out include Columbia, Jefferson City, and Holts Summit. The service will be available to order on September 15. The rollouts are the company's first foray into gigabit broadband Internet, However, Mediacom says it plans to expand the offering to other subscribers as it begins to deploy DOCSIS 3.1 "Gigasphere" technology next year across its 22-state territory. "Unlike some other 1-Gig providers whose services are limited to selected neighborhoods, our gigabit speeds are available throughout the community to 100% of the homes and residences along our network," said Ed Pardini, Mediacom's senior vice president of field operations, likely taking a swipe at potential competitors Google Fiber and AT&T. "We have invested over $4 billion in our communities through infrastructure upgrades to deliver the very latest broadband innovations to our residential and business customers across a fiber-rich network that includes 600,000 strand miles of fiber-optic cable," he added.
