TDS announces further fiber broadband network construction in Minnesota

Oct. 31, 2022
Additional network expansion in the state, funded entirely by TDS, grows the availability of up to 1Gig symmetrical internet service to homes, and up to 10Gig dedicated connections to businesses.

TDS Telecommunications, LLC announced that it has broken ground on a substantial fiber network expansion project in the New London, Minnesota area that will bring fiber-to-the-premises connections to more than 3,700 residential and business addresses across the towns of Brooten, Danube, Kerkhoven, New London, Pennock, and Spicer. The expansion, funded entirely by TDS, grows the availability of up to 1Gig symmetrical internet service to homes, and up to 10Gig dedicated connections to businesses.

TDS’ fiber infrastructure delivers a range of symmetrical internet options of up to 1Gig for homes, with all options including equal download and upload speeds. Businesses in the operator's fiber footprint gain dedicated connections up to 10G, as well as phone service including the TDS managedIP offering, a hosted Voice of IP (VoIP) platform for businesses. The new network upgrades will also bring TDS TV+ as a new option for all addresses included in the network build. TDS TV+ is the company’s full-featured TV product that includes a cloud DVR and integrates with popular video and music streaming services.

Construction work on the projects includes burying conduit and fiber cable underground in utility easement areas. According to a press release, the first customers are expected to be connected next summer, with launches continuing in phases as work is completed. TDS recently completed multiple fiber network expansion projects in Minnesota, wrapping up construction in Pequot Lakes, Pine River, Breezy Point, and Jenkins, Minnesota, reaching nearly 2,900 additional addresses with super high-speed connections.

TDS notes it has served customers in the area for 53 years. The Wisconsin-based company, which started as a group of small telecoms, is now a leader in fiber deployment and serves customers in more than 1,100 communities in 32 states.

TDS SVP of Corporate Affairs, Drew Petersen, commented:

“We’ve been a proud part of these communities for more than 50 years and we couldn’t be more excited to invest in these network upgrades. Fiber is the gold-standard technology because it delivers the reliable, fast upload and download speeds people want for remote work, school, healthcare, and to have the best entertainment experience at home.”
