AFL aims Fujikura 90S+ fusion splicer at fiber broadband networks

AFL says the model 90S+ fusion splicer improves productivity and minimizes downtime via its new Active Fusion Control (AFC) technology.

Fiber-optic cable, equipment, and accessories manufacturer AFL has launched its new single fiber core alignment fusion splicer, the Fujikura 90S+.

Incorporating improved ergonomics and enhanced automation from its predecessor, the Fujikura 90S, the company says the model 90S+ also improves productivity and minimizes downtime via new Active Fusion Control (AFC) technology.

“The pandemic took the world by surprise, but the world adapted faster than expected, largely leveraging virtual connectivity to do so,” observed Lucas Mays, associate product line manager for AFL’s Fusion Splicing Systems.

Mays continued, “Because of this, it’s no surprise broadband demand spiked. Fujikura fusion splicers met this demand by minimizing installation and repair times of broadband networks. With the new Active Fusion Control feature in the 90S+, downtime is reduced, output is more efficient and ultimately, productivity improves.”

According to AFL, the new cleaver's Active Fusion Control (AFC) technology "improves splice loss from poorly cleaved fibers and prevents bad splices due to a dull or dirty blade, or a poorly maintained cleaver in general."

“In the real world, it can be difficult to maintain spotless equipment. With a more robust splicing process, the Fujikura 90S+ prevents additional truck rolls for reworking splice points,” said Mays. “Active Fusion Control combined with Active Blade Management (ABM) between the CT50 cleaver and 90S+ delivers a complete value-add feature set not seen in other splicing equipment on the market.”

The company says the Fujikura 90S+ can be used across many field splicing applications including bend-insensitive fibers in drop cables, long-haul terrestrial and submarine LEAF fibers, loose buffer fiber, splice-on connectors, and more.

Additionally, AFL says the speed and accuracy of the 90S+ make it suitable for certain production and specialty environments, where high output, tight packaging, and low loss requirements are needed.

AFL notes it operates the only authorized repair facility for Fujikura splicing products in the U.S. Product technical support is available 24/7 and complimentary on-site training is available with every splicer purchased. For additional information, visit www.AFLglobal.com.
