AT&T Fiber increases fiber broadband package speeds, plus internet security

AT&T Fiber says it will increase the symmetrical broadband speeds it delivers to customers using its entry and mid-level plans.

AT&T Fiber says it will increase the symmetrical broadband speeds it delivers to customers using its entry and mid-level plans. The former will see their services speeds increase from 100 Mbps to 300 Mbps, while the latter will see jumps from 300 Mbps to 500 Mbps.

AT&T Fiber says the pricing for these two packages will remain unchanged. 1 GIG plan customers will continue to receive gigabit broadband as well. The company also introduced AT&T Internet Security, a vulnerability alert addition to AT&T Active Armor suite of internet protection services that AT&T Fiber customers can access without paying an additional fee.

The company touts the new entry-level plan as offering “the fastest entry speed at 300 Mbps compared to major cable providers.” The new broadband speeds will be immediately available to new customers. AT&T says it will “begin working” with existing customers of the two plans to receive the new rates as well.

"Whether it's even higher speed plans, additional easy-to-use security features, next-gen internet equipment, no data limits or a growing fiber footprint, AT&T is focused on bringing customers what they want and doing it better than anyone else," said Rick Welday, executive vice president and general manager of broadband at AT&T. "Our top mission is to keep enhancing AT&T Fiber so more people can take advantage of a superior internet experience."

"If there's anything we've learned from that past year, it's that fast, reliable, and affordable internet is becoming a critical need for all Americans," added Roger Entner, analyst and founder of Recon Analytics, via an AT&T press release.

Entner continued, "At least three-quarters of Americans would not move to a place that does not have broadband. With most Americans spending more than four hours on the internet every day, high-capacity connectivity is at the center of our transactional lives. We now learn, work, shop, bank, socialize, and entertain ourselves online, and we need broadband to do these things at scale."

Meanwhile, the addition of AT&T Internet Security is designed to ensure home networks stay safe. Accessible via AT&T’s Smart Home Manager, the app identifies network and practice vulnerabilities and alerts customers via the message center within the app.
