According to the latest industry research from Dell'Oro Group, total broadband access equipment revenue has rebounded from an anemic Q1, led by strong investments in PON infrastructure.

A newly published report by Dell'Oro Group states total global revenue for broadband access equipment this year increased to $3.3 billion, up 6% from 2Q19.

The analyst says this market growth came from spending on PON equipment, particularly in EMEA (Europe, Middle East, and Africa), where total PON equipment revenue reached $876 million.

"Fiber expansion projects continue to expand around the world, as evidenced by continued strong demand for OLT ports," said Jeff Heynen, Sr. Research Director, Broadband Access and Home Networking, at Dell'Oro Group.

Heynen added, "The sustained fiber investments are a clear sign that providers realize just how critical premium residential broadband access is to their business."

The Dell'Oro Group 2Q 2020 Broadband Access Quarterly Report also found that total cable access concentrator revenue decreased 8 percent year-over-year (Y/Y) to $219 million, "driven once again by a slowdown in CCAP license purchases in North America," said the analyst.

Meanwhile, total DSL access concentrator port shipments were up 7% Y/Y, driven by a rebound in total VDSL port shipments. Additionally, Dell'Oro said total PON ONT unit shipments increased 17% Y/Y, with strong growth seen in EMEA and CALA (Caribbean and Latin America).

The report provides a complete overview of the broadband access market with tables covering manufacturers' revenue, average selling prices, and port/unit shipments for cable, DSL, and PON equipment.
