Charter Communications (NASDAQ:CHTR) has extended its DOCSIS 3.1-based Spectrum Internet Gig to nearly 12 million more U.S. homes passed. The 1 Gbps service is now available to more than 95% of the U.S. homes where Spectrum Internet is available. The company plans to announce more gigabit Internet markets before the end of the year, with the goal of reaching virtually all of its 41-state service area by the end of the year.

New market launches include: Yakima, WA; Reno, NV; Bakersfield, CA; Cheyenne, WY; Rochester and Minneapolis/St. Paul, MN; St. Louis; Louisville, KY; Evansville, IN; Fort Worth, TX; Columbus, OH; La Crosse, WI; Kalamazoo and Traverse City, MI; Bangor, ME; Boston; Indianapolis; Greenville, SC; Nashville; and Montgomery, AL.

The service is available to both residential and small to medium-sized businesses (SMBs), and is currently available to approximately 45 million homes. Charter first launched the service in Oahu last December.
