Midco has made its first gigabit Internet service deployment across its Fargo, ND, service area. Dubbed Midco Xstream Gig, the service is based on DOCSIS 3.1 and is available to both residential and business customers.

"This is a monumental day in Midco's history," said Midco President and CEO Pat McAdaragh. "Due to our state-of-the-art network, we're launching Midco Xstream Gig to 16 communities in the Fargo-Moorhead-West Fargo area."

Midco is using Cisco's (NASDAQ:CSCO) cBR-8 CCAP with modems from Hitron Technologies and ARRIS (NASDAQ:ARRS) at launch, with support for additional DOCSIS 3.1 modems anticipated over time.

"We are only doing gigabit on D3.1," said Jon Pederson, Midco's CTO. "Our goal for this year is to enable gigabit-level DOCSIS 3.1 service to 80% of our markets. We are tracking well to that goal. Nearly all of our larger headends have already been upgraded with cBR-8s. It’s down to modem availability and making sure we deploy a well-tested quality service to our customers in each successive market."
