MediaMelon has introduced MediaMelon QBR technology, a streaming approach intended to reduce bitrates for IP-based live or on-demand video services while improving video quality. It's designed to reduce bitrate requirements for video streaming while reducing content quality variance and eliminating video artifacts.

The technology uses rapid scene analysis, content characterization, perceptual quality mapping and buffer management techniques. The technology, offered as a managed service by MediaMelon, is designed to integrate into the existing video service workflow via APIs and enhance the capabilities of over-the-top (OTT) streaming companies, encoders, video players, online video platforms and CDNs.

MediaMelon is integrating QBR technology with other vendors' video encoders and video players, and it's also designed to be implemented in smart TVs and set-top boxes.

QBR is at the heart of the MediaMelon Qubit family of solutions, which support QBR-optimized real-time or VOD service delivery. The solutions integrate into the existing video workflow via SDKs implemented in encoders and video players. MediaMelon solutions are designed to be compatible with HTTP Live Streaming (HLS), MPEG-DASH, HTTP Smooth Streaming (HSS) and HTTP Dynamic Streaming (HDS).
