Satellite operator SES (NYSE:SESG) has partnered with Harmonic (NASDAQ:HLIT) and Mobile Satellite Connection to demonstrate an end-to-end UltraHD transmission system and deliver live and linear UltraHD video to a cable system at INTX in Chicago.
The UltraHD broadcasts are being enabled by SES' satellites and teleport network and a team of technology partners. Harmonic is contributing its Electra X3 media processor, ProView integrated receiver-decoders, and NSG Exo distributed CCAP system for DOCSIS transmission. Mobile Satellite Connection is providing the SNG truck stationed at McCormick Place in Chicago, where the live UltraHD broadcast will be uplinked to an SES satellite and delivered to the SES Teleport in Woodbine, MD.
A mix of pre-produced content and live UltraHD broadcasts will be processed at the Maryland teleport and then delivered over an SES satellite to operational cable systems in the SES INTX booth and the Harmonic INTX booth.
