Midco is now offering its Midco Xstream Gig gigabit Internet service in Forest Lake, MN, and 16 surrounding communities. The DOCSIS 3.1-based service is available to both residential and business customers.

"Midco Business Xstream Gig is a significant investment in the region. Businesses often look to broadband availability when deciding where to expand," said Midco President and CEO Pat McAdaragh. "This shows Midco's commitment to technology and innovation in the Forest Lake service area."

Midco's first DOCSIS 3.1 deployment was in Fargo, ND, in March, followed by other deployments in the Dakotas and Minnesota, most recently in the Bismarck-Mandan service area of North Dakota. Early deployments have used CCAP gear from Cisco (NASDAQ:CSCO) and modems from ARRIS (NASDAQ:ARRS) and Hitron Technologies. Midco plans to add other vendors' DOCSIS 3.1 modems as they become available.

Midco says its Xstream Gig is now available to more than 70% of its customers. The company's goal is to reach 80% of its customers with gigabit by the end of the year.
