TN Utility Gets Al-Lu 1-Gig GPON Net

Bristol Tennessee Essential Services and Alcatel-Lucent (Euronext Paris and NYSE:ALU) announced that 1 Gbps broadband service is now available to all of BTES' 33,000 residential and business electric customers. The network is powered by Alcatel-Lucent's Gigabit passive optical network (GPON) technology, including 7342 ISAM FTTU optical line terminals (OLTs) and optical network terminals (ONTs), 7450 ESS switches, and 7750 BSR routers.Bristol Tennessee Essential Services is a municipally owned electric utility that also provides high-speed Internet, telephone, and cable TV services over a fiber-optic network.
