Coblitz Talks Up Power Plans

Mark Coblitz, SVP of strategic planning for Comcast, issued a call for a strategic approach to energy management and power availability that would support anticipated growth in new services for the cable industry.

Speaking at SCTE SEMI Forum 2012 in Philadelphia, Coblitz outlined the need for comprehensive energy management strategies to "ensure that the energy requirements of our broadband cable networks will be met in the face of rapidly growing demand."

In his keynote remarks, Coblitz cited increased demands for Internet services and higher broadband speeds, as well as increased use of IP unicast, HD, 3D and multiplatform video services, business service and such new offerings as security and home monitoring, as factors that are driving new powering needs for cable system operators.
