RCN has launched DOCSIS 3.1-based gigabit Internet service in the Washington DC metro area, including Washington DC; Montgomery County, MD; Falls Church; and the Braemar community in Bristow, VA. The residential service starts at $69.99/month for 12 months and requires no contract.

RCN has also deployed DOCSIS 3.1 in the Chicago and New York City metro areas, going live in those markets on Nov. 3 and Oct. 26, respectively. Other cable operators that have deployed DOCSIS 3.1-based gigabit Internet services include Atlantic Broadband, Comcast and WOW!
