In the Northeast, Comcast is increasing the speed of its Blast! tier from 105 Mbps to 150 Mbps and introducing a Performance Pro tier of 75 Mbps. New and existing customers who subscribe to many Xfinity Triple Play bundles will now receive Performance Pro, tripling their download speeds from 25 Mbps to 75 Mbps. The new speeds and tiers are expected to be available to most customers starting later this month.
In WiFi news, Comcast has launched more than 1,800 Xfinity WiFi hotspots throughout its Keystone Region, with plans to add another 1,500 outdoor locations by the end of the year. The region comprises areas of western, central and northeastern Pennsylvania, eastern Ohio, northern West Virginia and the Maryland panhandle.
In streaming video, Comcast X1 customers in Central California can now access their TV lineup on any connected screen in the home. Additionally, they will be able to download programs they have recorded on their DVR to watch on IP-enabled devices or stream them over the Internet. The in-home streaming feature provides access to virtually the entire channel line-up and Xfinity On Demand programming on mobile devices and computers. The content is presented to customers via the X1 user interface.
The new offerings are launching on Comcast systems in in the Chico, Fresno, Marysville/Yuba City, Merced, Modesto, Sacramento, Santa Barbara County, Stockton and Visalia metro areas. Live in-home streaming and X1 DVR with cloud technology has already launched in the San Francisco Bay Area and Comcast's other systems in California.
